Massage parlours in Thailand are largely associated with sex. Massages are a popular tradition in Thailand but massage parlours offer you a lot more than just an innocent body rub. Although these are concentrated mostly in Bangkok and Phuket there are a number of very discreet places in Chiang Mai where you can avoid the bar scene altogether and engage in your own private fun.

These sex massage parlours are not entirely geared to the tourist trade and are kept quite hidden here in Chiang Mai. Since the parlours provide the rooms for a short term service (the girls aren't taken off the premises) these are popular with Thai men who want to keep things a secret.

Meeting horny local girls for free

Most 'bachelors' visiting Thailand opt for the easy solution of visiting go go and girlie bars, but there are also lots of regular girls who aren't prostitutes but keen on meeting foreigners for a fling. Hundreds of lonely and horny modern city girls go looking online for sex with visiting or resident westerners, no strings attached. They aren't expecting money or a boyfriend and haven't been with scores of other men. The best place to meet these girls is on Adult Friend Finder, where there are more than 10,000 registered Thai female members.

Typically, these places are attached to a larger entertainment complex and can be hard to find if you don't know where to look. Upon entering, you will find that the girls are displayed behind a one-way mirror 'fishbowl'. The selection varies according to the time of evening (some are even open from early afternoon) or time of the month, and each wear a number, making it easier for you to select one.

The sex massages begin with a thorough soaping down in a large tub, attached to the room. The girls can be quite adept at this and will join you in the tub. After that it's entirely up to you.

Dirty massages

A far tamer massage often given is known as the dirty massage. This is an oil massage where you get massaged in 'additional places' for an extra fee of about 300 baht (on top of the 200+ baht for the massage). There are places that specialise in this and others that will oblige, provided you are in a private booth.

However, not all massage places are willing to do this, some may even be a little surprised at the suggestion, though you probably won't have been the first to ask. There are many regular massage shops around, choose one that has private cubicles, ask for an oil massage and take off all your clothes. Often, if you have done this, they will take the hint and offer.

The most obviously place to get what you’re looking for is a small lane on the right side about 100m down Loi Kroh road (opposite the 7-Eleven). The enthusiastic welcome and sexy outfits of the girls says it all, and though they may not be the best trained masseuses in town, there is no doubt in what their package offers. Ask for an oil massage and let them tease about 400-500 baht tip out of you. Massage is all they offer though.

These are often a little difficult to find, as Chiang Mai tries to maintain a far more respectable image than Bangkok. However they do exist, the selection can be good if you get there at the right time (before 7pm when tour groups start arriving). Prices can vary wildly. All the places mentioned below have a decent selection of girls, clean rooms, and are safe. Most close at Midnight, with last admittance 30 minutes before.

Chiang Mai Massage Parlour: is located besides the Phucome Hotel, with a discreet entrance, large clean rooms (some of the best in Chiang Mai) and reasonable rates (1000-1600b). It all depends what time of year or day/night you come, as the adjacent hotel is usually full of bus tours of Bangkokians. Corner Huay Kaew and Cholpratan (canal) roads, west of city (entrance in adjacent hotel car park).

Porn Phayom: is part of a complex that includes a bar, snooker room and karaoke, and has an unreliable selection of young women at variable rates (1100 - 1600b). We’ve heard mixed results from this place. Entrance is at the back, drive through to the car park. Corner of Suithep road and airport/Wing 41 road, no English signage, but obvious.

Siyuri Complex: caters specifically for an Asian foreign crowd (visiting Japanese and Koreans), therefore the selection of ladies suits their tastes and wallets. Some say this place has the best selection, and prices are fair (1100b), but the ladies are sometimes uncooperative. Rooms are comfortable (but small), and it includes a karaoke lounge, bar and massage but gets busy. Soi 2 off west side of Bumrungrat road (midway down), east of the river.

Pandoras: looks like a Greek revival palace from the outside but is pretty nondescript inside and has a poor selection if the tour buses of Japanese and Koreans have got there before you. 1600b upwards, poor value for money. Can't miss the fairy lights down a broad lane off the north side of Charoen Muang road, near the railway station.

OT massage: is a dirty massage place where you can select from a good choice of young ladies with skilful hands. They are good at giving you a flirtatious and sensual oil rub down (600b all incl.), but draw the line at sex. It’s a bit seedy and satisfaction is variable. Near Pandoras, across an open lot in an old disused hotel.

StarXix: is a seedy and often deserted pole dancing club near Loi Kroh but the massage shop below specialises in oil massages that will put a smile on your face, don't be deceived by the old lady who gives them, she knows what she's doing. (500b all incl.) Soi 3, Loi kroh, besides the Chiang Mai Entertainment Complex, off Loi Kroh road, near Imperial Mae Ping hotel.

Agogo Bars

Foxy Lady A cramped place conveniently near the night market, with sexy girls. At any one time, half a dozen girls will be on stage doing the go go dance in a "lazy" manner, with plenty more happy to have drinks bought for them while they wait their turn in the 'rotation'. They are flirtatious and good lap dancers. Cost of Singha - 80 baht, no persistent waitresses. bar fine, 500 baht, taking the girls out for short time (2 hours) is 1000 baht, long time is 2000 baht. The biggest cluster of girlie bars is now located in the Chiang Mai Entertainent Centre, which is an arcade just off Loi Kroh road, halfway between the night market and moat (near the Imperial Mae Ping hotel). here you 'll find plenty of lively pubs of all character, all full of available ladies.
