Preparation is in full swing for Chiang Mai Fest 2011, one of the city’s largest international events. The festival will feature a range of performing arts, music and culture featuring both Thai and international talent.
The event will be held from April 8 to 10 at the Three Kings Monument in central Chiang Mai, which will be host the main stage. Food and drinks will be on sale as visitors enjoy various music and dance performances.
An art display themed ‘Music and Dance in the Garden’ will also be a feature of the Chiang Mai Fest 2011, with work presented by Thai and International artists at the Chiang Mai City Art & Cultural Center.
Thai artists set to take to the stage at this year’s event include Nantida Kaewbuasai, Lanna Commins, Thitipol, as well as performances highlighting the unique sounds of Thai traditional music and instruments.
International artists to join this year’s Chiang Mai Fest include Koto player Noriko Tsuboi, Holland’s brass Jigger Bigger Band, Cabaret Vocalist Perform by Frans Bloem, Bossanova guitar and Brazilian Jazz by famed guitarist Gilbert Medam, Scottish bagpipes and Celtic Band by The Itinerants, and professional dancers. Younger revellers will surely find themselves rocking to the beat of funky Bollywood dance music.
Spokesman for the event, Mr Suwannachai Littirak, said that the objective of the organisers was to come up with a significant event that must not be missed. He added that the timing of the event provides a choice to holidaymakers prior to the Songkran festival.
