THIRTY-TWO health volunteers had to be rushed to hospital on Sunday after a serious bout of food poisoning in Chiang Mai. The group from Chanthaburi were staying in the northern city on a volunteer trip when they were rushed to nearby at around 8am.
Half the group left after seeing a doctor and being prescribed antibiotics. However, the remainder had to be admitted overnight to receive intravenous care. According to friends of the group the volunteers began vomiting and experiencing diarrhea late Saturday night, and were taken to hospital the subsequent morning. The 32 were part of a larger party of 200 volunteers up from Chanthaburi for a field trip/volunteer programme to the northern provinces.
No other details have been released regarding the groups care, but reports in the national press suggest they are all expected to leave hospital after receiving the appropriate medication and fluids via intravenous feeding. The group is currently on a tour of all the northern provinces in Thailand from their home in central Thailand.
McCormick is a local hospital in Chiang Mai’s Muang District and all 32 volunteers are being treated at the general practice facility there.
